Talented and young Han van Meegeren is a rebel from the 1920's Amsterdam art-scene. Critics find his job old-fashioned because he paints from the style of Vermeer and his Rembrandt plus so they call him a copy cat. To prove some point, he produces a fake Vermeer and attempts to pass it off like a real one. It works. Rather than revealing the truth and thereby embarrassing the Artworld, he continues to make money from his many forgeries. He could be caught in a web of lies and deceit, along with also his entire life spins out of control. Then one day, high ranking Nazi Hermann Göring cries on his door, searching to get a Vermeer for his private collection...
