At the end of World War II, a National Guard infantry company must install artillery observation posts in a strategic place. Lt. Costa (Jack Palance) knows that Capt. Cooney (Eddie Albert) is in command because of their"connections" he left stateside. Costa has doubts regarding Cooney's capacity all hell breaks loose and when Cooney sends Costa and his men from a dangerous mission -- also won't re enforce them.
