When hedonistic but charming con man Elmer Gantry (Burt Lancaster) meets the amazing Sister Sharon Falconer (Jean Simmons), a road side revivalistthat he feigns piousness to combine with her act as a fervent preacher. A prosperous pair that is on-stage is made by the two, and love is extended to by also their chemistry. Both the series and their relationship have been jeopardized, however, when one of Gantry's Ex Lovers (Shirley Jones) determines that she has a score to settle with the charismatic celebrity.
