Milan (Johnny Hallyday), a man, exits a train in a little French town. He meets a retired poetry instructor named M. Manesquier while he waits for the right time to rob the local bank (Jean Rochefort). The two men form an odd friendship and venture down the path less traveled because they both wish to experience what it's like to be the other.
