Early in 1939 Sir Robert Thorndyke takes aim at Adolf Hitler with a high powered rifle, however the shot misses its mark. Caught and tortured by the Gestapo as well as left for dead, Sir Robert makes his back to England where he finds the Gestapo has followed him. Recognizing that his government would transform him over to German authorities, Sir Robert goes underground in his battle with his pursuers.
