Save the Cinema is based on the true story of Liz Evans, a hairdresser and leader of a youth theater in Carmarthen, Wales, who started a campaign in 1993 to save the Lyric theater from closing. Together with Richard Goodridge, who was Mayor of Carmarthen at the time (in the movie, this role is played by a local councilman), they asked Steven Spielberg for help and got a special showing of Jurassic Park.
