Two educators, man-hungry Doris as well as restrained Marian, check out the Yorkshire moors a year after friend Evelyn went away there. On a stormy night, they take refuge in the isolated home of Stephen, single pianist shell-shocked in the Spanish Civil Battle. Doris runs away as soon as the flooding subsides; but Marian's suspicions regarding Evelyn's destiny, in conflict with her growing love for Stephen, punctual her to remain on amongst the misty bogs.
