Overview:
After a disagreement and court case between director Michael Powell and producer David O. Selznick, Gone to Earth (1950) was re-edited. The majority of Selznick's changes are as follows: (1) Including a prologue. (2) Adding scenes that explain things, often by affixing labels or inscriptions to them. Increasing the number of close-ups of Jennifer Jones. He also cut a few scenes that he felt were too dramatic. Unfortunately, because some of these were major plot points, the story does not make as much sense as the original.
