Overview:
Tin Man is a 2007 miniseries co-produced by RHI Entertainment and Sci Fi Channel original films that aired in three parts on the Sci Fi Channel in the United States. The first segment aired on December 2, with the subsequent two segments airing the following evenings. It was released on DVD on March 11, 2008, and rebroadcast in the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand in the same year. The miniseries is a continuation of the classic novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, with science fiction and other fantasy elements added. It stars Zooey Deschanel, Neal McDonough, Alan Cumming, Raoul Trujillo, Kathleen Robertson, and Richard Dreyfuss. DG, a waitress from a tiny village, is sucked into a mythical realm known as the O.Z., which is ruled by the cruel sorceress Azkadellia. Together with her allies Glitch, Raw, and Cain, DG embarks on a mission to recover her lost memories, locate her biological parents, and disrupt Azkadellia's plan to lock the O.Z. in a perpetual state of darkness. The first part of a miniseries that cost $20 million to create was the highest-rated program in its timeslot, with 6.4 million viewers; the entire miniseries would be the highest-rated miniseries of 2007. It was nominated for nine Emmy awards, winning one, as well as a Critics' Choice Award. Some critics praised the acting, soundtrack, and visual effects, while others found it excessively dark and depressing.
