Mona Bergeron is dead, and her body found at the countryside in a ditch. Out of this, the film flashes back into the weeks resulting in her departure. During these flashbacks, Mona gradually decreases as she travels from place to place, taking odd jobs with whom ever will offer her a place to sleep and staying. Mona is independent, craving freedom over comfort, but it really is this desire to be free that will gradually cause her death.
